- Knowledge recorded in a protocol to produce unambiguous documentation, reporting in accordance with protocol;

When people communicate knowledge, they often use a whiteboard or sheet of paper to represent their thoughts graphically. When this knowledge is recorded in a computer system, however, it is turned into ‘computer code’ and as a result, the medical experts do not recognise their knowledge anymore. Long specification processes are required to record the knowledge before the implementation procedure can be developed. Only in the test phase or when seeing the final result is the expert able to check whether or not everything is correct. This should and can be done differently.
In order to record knowledge and use it efficiently, we use the Decision Support System (DSS) developed by our our American partner LogicNets. The architecture of the LogicNets system, which is based on web technology, offers a visual design environment to model knowledge in the shape of decision trees.
Protocols, directives and the thoughts of specialists/experts are brought to life during the modelling, meaning that the expert is able to immediately see the end result and verify whether or not the solution is correct. The dialogue with end users can thus begin right at the start of the process. Programming becomes modelling and communicating.
