Universal Smart Energy Framework (USEF)
ICT is one of the founding partners of USEF (Universal Smart Energy Framework) which is a non-commercial partnership, founded in 2013 by Alliander, ABB, DNV GL, IBM, ICT, RWE-Essent and Stedin. USEF provides an open specification which will accelerate the development of smart energy products, services and solutions for the large-scale rollout of smart grids in Europe.
USEF is aimed at utilizing flexibility in energy profiles. The flexibility that occurs when controlling production and consumption devices. USEF assembles flexibility from energy customers (business customers as well as consumers), bundles it to a sufficient size and defines concrete flexibility products adding value to parties in the chain, such as the distribution network operator, energy supplier or system operator.
ICT offers a full implementation of the USEF framework, based on the reference implementation developed by the USEF Foundation. The USEF implementation is offered as ‘a Service’ in a cloud-based environment. This means a fully flexible, scalable and secure service with varying licensing models and Service Level Agreements. At your choice, ICT can either host all USEF roles in a single instance, or provide a specialized solution for a distinct role.
