Improve efficiency in dealing with an increasing number of products

ICI PARIS XL is the number one luxury perfumery in the Benelux. The business has over 280 retail locations and over 4000 employees in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Luxemburg. ICI PARIS XL is a part of A.S. Watson, the world’s largest Health & Beauty retailer. The Kruidvat, Trekpleister and Prijsmepper brands are also a part of A.S. Watson in the Netherlands.

The challenge

Since 2007, ICI PARIS XL has been using a central distribution center in Vilvoorde to supply its stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. This center is well-equipped with has an order picking system, 800 meters of conveyor belts, gathering areas, a sorting system with six exits and storage areas, plus a Smart Warehouse Management System (WMS) managed by ICT Group. However, changing conditions in this sector – a growing range of products with shorter life-cycles, smaller amounts, shorter delivery times, and increasing interest in the webshop – demanded a reconceptualization of the logistics.

The solution

ICI PARIS XL’s SmartWMS has been growing along with the changing market. The increasing interest for the webshop lead ICI PARIS XL to implement a new method for handling their logistics: ICT Group’s Put-to-Light system.

By integrating this system into the SmartWMS, ICI PARIS XL created a clear path for speeding up the sorting and packaging of online orders. This part of the logistics was simplified thanks to the Put-to-Light system: packing slips, shipping labels and optional gift cards are printed automatically. As the request of A.S. Watson, ICT Group also took charge of the SmartWMS and will ensure that it grows alongside ICI PARIS XL and the changing market.

Following a few months of preparation, the commissioning of ICT Group’s Put-to-Light system went smoothly and was met with great success. Large efficiency gains enabled a significant increase in the handling speed of online orders. And there is still plenty of room to meet the expected growth in this market segment. A resounding success for both ICI PARIS XL and the Transport & Logistics business unit of ICT Group.
