Exchange of medical data

Implementing and configuring an Integration Engine
Various information systems within a healthcare organization (Hospital Information System, Laboratory reports, etc.) need to be integrated to optimize efficiency and efficacy and prevent medical mistakes. Currently, inefficiency and inefficacy is caused by the fact that medical care providers need to query multiple standalone systems. The ideal solution is that all systems are seamlessly integrated in such a way that one single comprehensive system is provided to the medical care provider(s). One such integration strategy to manage message flow can be done with an Integration Engine (IE).

Integration Engine
An IE acts as a central hub for messages. Providing message services such as translation, filtering, forwarding and queueing, interfacing to the entire healthcare environment.
It increases the level of control over the sharing and dissemination of information and resources (i.e. time, money, etc.) which are optimized and saved due to:
– The output is in a standardized format.
– A reduction of the number of import(s) and export(s) of endpoints by controlling data flow between applications.
– The reuse of data between applications (information sharing).
– An easier method to interface with a new or replaced application.
– The ability to monitor the entire system at a single glance and a central entry point.
– The ability to proactively notify interested medical care providers, using visual display and e-mail, when problems arise.
