"The atmosphere at ICT is that of boffins enjoying what they do."

It was the project-based approach to working in particular, that attracted me when I applied for a job at ICT Automatisering some years ago. At the time, I was working for a small company where I was a kind of jack of all trades with a great many different responsibilities. Project-based work gives you a much better sense of where you're going, as the entire process is clearly structured.

I started out at ICT Automatisering as a Senior Technical Designer and quickly advanced to a position as Software Architect. I'm very happy with the work I'm doing. I enjoy the repeated challenge of finding a way to translate the wishes of the client into a technical solution.

The projects at ICT Automatisering are quite varied in nature, which is one of the things I like about working here. Whereas one project involves a management & control system for the Amsterdam sewer system, the next project involves the automation of a production line for radioactive medicines. Each project is unique and presents its own specific challenges. And there are also long-term projects available for those who prefer a little bit less variety.

The atmosphere at ICT Automatisering is that of boffins enjoying what they do, with a no-nonsense approach and a passion for technology. Everyone's door is open to you, and with approximately 800 colleagues, you can always find someone who will help you find an answer to your question.

"A succesful career path can take many different directions!"

After three years of .NET experience in the financial sector and two years of experience with MES/SCADA and DCS systems in the industrial automation sector, I started looking for the ideal employer who could combine both these worlds. I ended up at ICT Automatisering, a very professional yet informal organization offering a great many opportunities for further development.

ICT Automatisering provided employees with an annual study budget and an individual book budget to encourage them to develop themselves further. In addition, there are trainings available in the area of personal skills which provide you with more insight into your career opportunities within the company. There is ample variety and choice available inside the organization; you can be assigned to internal projects or you can be seconded to one of the many clients served bij ICT Automatisering. After all, a successful career path can take many different directions!

During the last two years, I worked on various client projects, providing me with the ideal combination of .NET and Industrial Automation activities, such as:

  • A VB.NET Service Bus application for the communication between a PLC with OPC and superimposed SAP systems with SOAP Webservices;
  • A planning application for the maintenance and replacement of production machines within a SAP envirionment;
  • A C#.NET 4.0 Service Bus application with an ASP.NET WebHMI and communication with an Allen Bradley PLC via NET.Logix 3.0.

At both the clients concerned, the applications run in a very busy production environment. It's a great feeling to work on something and then see that your application is a critical factor in such an environment.
